MY LIFE AS A DJ - PART 1

It was early on a Sunday morning, I awoke to the sound of a coffee pot percolating. The soothing sound encouraged me to roll over and think about breakfast. Then suddenly I opened my eyes wide with a puzzled look on face. I don't own a coffee machine and I don't drink coffee. The sound was on the radio. My alarm clock had turned on the WREK radio station from GA TECH in Atlanta. For at least 15 minutes, the station had been playing the sound of coffee percolating. ... weird. ... cool.

Now this was back in 1985, before you could hear anything you want anytime on the internet. This was new, unique. Where else could you hear coffee percolating on the radio?!?

I kept listening, and the next "song" on the station was the sound of a man trying to get out of a box. He didn't talk; he just grunted and painted an unforgettable audio picture. Is that garbage? Is that too off the mainstream to be on the radio?

Well, it wasn't too far out for WREK. And it wasn't too far out for me. I was "in" and already heading down the road to one day be a DJ at WREK.

Every Superhero has an origin story; this was mine.
